Transmec supports growth at London Gateway port

Transmec UK’s warehouse at London Gateway is gearing up for further growth after shipping companies Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd chose the port as the primary hub for their new Gemini partnership.

Beginning in February, Asia-Europe container ships are set to dock each week at London Gateway, with Felixstowe dropped from the companies’ network.

Maersk described London Gateway as “the most optimal port to serve our customers importing/exporting cargo to/from the UK”.

Based a mile from the port, Transmec operates a 155,050 sq ft (14,400 sq m) warehouse providing multi-sector storage, logistics and distribution solutions.

The team also provides a range of port services including shunting, cross docking and devanning. Complementary services include bonded warehousing and full customs management.

We’re ideally located by the port and are already providing a range of tailored solutions to importers and exporters,” said Imran Mohammed, Transmec’s UK general manager.

Collecting containers from the port and taking them to our warehouse takes only 15 minutes, which could save demurrage charges to our clients.

“Everything is in place to step up our services from the beginning of February.”

Transmec’s depot has gone from strength to strength since it opened in spring 2023, serving leading names in the automotive, fashion, food, retail and manufacturing sectors and playing a key role in their supply chains.

The UK’s most integrated logistics hub, the London Gateway site is just 10 miles from the M25, providing easy access for Transmec’s extensive vehicle fleet.

One of the world’s fastest-growing ports, London Gateway opened its fourth berth last year and a further two berths, plus a second rail terminal, are set to be built by the end of the decade as part of a £1 billion investment by its owner DP World.
